Up for sale is this unpolished , mint 1960's Movado Kingmatic Surf.
Disguised in a rather conservative case this watch features a high performance movement that is remarkably thin and a waterproof screwdown case that was pushed to the limits in water and air travel upon it's release. Even for 1960's as classic diver shape we know was becoming popular with the rotating bezel , it was considered a stealth sports watch by Movado. The original advert showed a man surfing in the ocean and in a tuxedo while wearing the Kingmatic Surf.
The Movado 380 Caliber movement with 28 jewels , a fine ball bearing rotor , generous heat treated blued screws , while being extremely robust was thin for it's size. This could easily be considered the last great true in house movement from Movado just before the Zenith movements started getting supplied due to partnership.
The case is knife sharp and well preserved , the deep factory engraved caseback still has the black lacquer on lettering which all were suppose to be gotten rid of from extensive wear is still there.
It is 36mm lug to lug and supplied on a period correct mesh bracelet.
